Crickets – a cricket consists of two triangular pieces of plywood joined to form a level ridge that extends from the center of the chimney back to the wood deck. When installing flashing around the chimney, it is often necessary to install a cricket between the roof deck and the back-face of the chimney.
Valleys – which are formed by two intersecting roof lines, have the most excessive water movement and weight associated with snow, ice and debris such as branches and leaves. Valleys are usually covered with metal flashing and it is important that the joints are impermeable to keep your home safe and dry.
